...[more]The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) is a patriotic women’s service organization, with nearly 1 million members. The philosophy of the American Legion Auxiliary is “Service, not Self,” which encompasses the volunteerism spirit of the million ambitious women in the organization, who aim to inspire the communities around them. Auxiliary members are wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters of American veterans. Some members are veterans themselves. The ALA is involved in many community service projects, activities, and programs including: Girls State, Girls Nation, and Freedoms Foundation. Members devote hours of service to crime prevention programs, instructing children, the elderly and the general public on safety, crime prevention and protection within the community. They also assist the VA Medical Centers by providing entertainment and assistance in physical and psychological therapy.
